A live, national peer review session on July 15.

Dear Reader,

On Wednesday, July 15 | 8:00–10:30 PM CST, I'm facilitating a live, national Community Peer Review session on Zoom. It's open to CPMs, CPM candidates, and students anywhere in the country, and it counts as half of the five hours of Community Peer Review required for your CPM recertification.

Here's how it works. Midwives present cases, and we talk through them together as a group. You don't need a complication or a hard outcome to bring something worth discussing. Normal births belong here too, and they often teach us just as much as the difficult ones. This isn't a review board. It's a room full of people who want to get better at what they do, and it's routine, confidential, and non-punitive, in line with NARM's Community Peer Review standard.

The session is live only. We won't be recording it, because that's what protects the confidentiality of the cases we discuss. When it's over, you'll walk away with a certificate listing the cases presented and the number of CPMs in attendance, ready to drop straight into your recertification file.

If you're a student, you can present a case alongside your preceptor, or simply sit in and learn. Either way, you're welcome.

There's no cap on registration, so if you know someone who's been putting this off too, bring them along.

Registration is $15.

See you there!

Communication Bias and Decision Making for Midwives

Dear Midwife, As midwives, we make hundreds of decisions every week. Some are straightforward. Others happen in the middle of uncertainty—when emotions are high, information is incomplete, and families are looking to us for guidance. But what if the greatest influence on our decisions isn't our knowledge... ...it's our bias? Every one of us carries cognitive biases. They're part of being human. They shape how we interpret information, communicate with clients, assess risk, and respond under...
